Where To put recordings

Post by swampy » Fri May 27, 2016 6:21 am

Hi
just setting up Mythtv on backend setup
have everyting set up , except for recordings on storage directories
on this option if I just leave Default / when I exit i Get a message saying "//.test" -directory is not writeable do you want to go back and fix these 2 problems
So tried to change to /var/lib/mythtv/recordings (recordings being the directory i created to put recordings in)
Upon exit get message path /var/lib/mythtv recordings path doesnt exist do you want to go back and fix these 2 problems
Any Guidance appreciated

It's best to put them on a dedicated drive or at least a dedicated partition, making sure that the mythtv user has permissions to write to whatever directory you create there for the recordings.

You have to manually create the directories and give read/write access to them. Mythbuntu used to do that, but the latest version didn't create any, so I had to do it manually. Putting a link to them in the setup doesn't create them.

On my fresh mythbuntu 16.04 install I use /var/lib/mythtv/ as my storage directories. I changed group ownership from 'root' to 'mythtv' and made the folder read and writable by the mythtv group. All changes were made recursively to sub folders.
